This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I am so blessed to be able to teach students from kindergarten to 5th grade. The students in my classes are hard-working, energetic, and curious. They love learning and excel when I can make the classroom learning relevant to their life. My school is a Title I school. This means most of my students are economically disadvantaged and receive free or reduced lunch.
The students I teach thrive off of real world experiences.
My goal is to bring as many of these experiences as I can into our classroom.
My Project
Kids love animals. However, many of the students in my class do not have pets at home. Having pets in the classroom allows students the opportunity to play and interact with the pets that they love so much. It also teaches kids responsibility as they have to take care of these animals every day. Students are responsible for feeding the pets, playing with the animals, as well as cleaning out the cages. The students take turns taking the pets home over the school breaks, so everyone must know how to be responsible for these animals. Currently we have a mammal (guinea pig), fish, and reptiles (turtles). We hope to add an amphibian and a bird soon.
