My Students

My students love having animals in the classroom. The animals provide certain students the chance to do something that they normally wouldn't get the chance to do.

I teach freshmen through seniors.

I know that sounds old for kids to be enjoying animals but these kids take care of the animals and love getting them out and playing with them. I think for some students it is almost therapeutic. I have two birds, two mice, two salamanders, and three fish tanks. It is no surprise to any of them to see the birds flying around the room or the mice in their balls on the floor. Feeding the salamanders crickets is one of the favorites of the students. These animals provide an important learning opportunity for my students.

My Project

The resources I have requested are a variety of animal care products, such as, bedding, food, and habitats. I have been paying for these things myself and am having a hard time keeping up. The students clean the animal cages and tanks themselves and feed and water them too. The materials I am asking for are just the basics supplies needed to do those tasks.

I've said it before but it should be said again, my kids love the animals in my room.

The animals all have names and are cared for by the students themselves. I don't want to have to find another home for them because I can't afford to care for them. These animals were all gifts from former students and mean a lot to me as well but have started to become quite expensive learning tools. Please help me with my classroom 'critter care'!
