Critical Thinking With Coding!

My Students

My students are a sweet group of firsties who come from many different countries including Africa, Palestine, Iraq, Brazil, China, Japan, the Congo, Spain and the Dominican Republic.

They are an excited and eager bunch! A portion of my students qualify for refugee status and coming to America has been exciting and overwhelming as they adapt and learn the language and customs. Many are first generation English speakers.

My Project

Being able to have these materials in class would make a world of difference in the way that my students view critical thinking and using their higher level thinking skills to increase academic performance. Not only that, Dot and Dash will give my students the confidence to try new things and to be risk-takers. Students will be able to communicate and problems solve with their peers and work collaboratively to solve problems to get Dot and Dash to follow coded commands. The ability to think through situations is invaluable and the earlier that students are exposed, the more confidence they will develop as they continue through school and further their educations. Coding is the new literacy.
