This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Do you remember what it was like being able to test the weather as you learned about it? Or listen to an online lab at your own pace so you don't get lost? Or even look at fossils as you study radioactive decay? Help me make it more interesting for my students through donating various supplies!
My students love to ask questions and their eyes light up when they get to actually solve science problems by hands on projects.
Unfortunately this doesn't get to happen often since we have limited supplies. Ninety-nine percent of them receive free or reduced lunches and have limited opportunities and distractions outside of school. Therefore when they get to school, they are sometimes discouraged or distracted. I try to make my class as interactive as possible so that they enjoy being in school which is why I need some essential lab supplies.
My Project
As many disadvantaged socioeconomic students, my students sometimes do not care about learning. They come into school with a million other things on their mind and they either don't want to listen or just don't see the benefit in listening. Yet, when you propose something exciting, something where they get to discover the data and solve inquiry based problems....then you see they kid's eyes light up with excitement. My students need headphones, fossils, and a weather instrument to aid in labs. The resources I requested will engage my students by allowing them either go at their own pace when studying and researching (headphones) or it will give them an opportunity to participate in hands on activities (weather instrument and fossil kit).
You will help change our education system.
Everyday kids read, write, and see visuals on PowerPoints. Yet, these students need to also interact with the science. They need to have differentiated lessons and hands on labs to not only make their education more rigorous but to create buy-in for our students. We need them to want to learn...once they are excited about learning then the rest is easy!
