Critical Thinking and Collaboration With STEM

Help me give my students exposure to STEM activities such as simple machines, circuits, 3D printing, etc. They will problem solve, think critically and collaborate by using materials to prepare them for jobs in the STEM fields.

FULLY FUNDED! Ms. Schmidt's classroom raised $985

My Project

I spend a lot of my own money in order to do many of the STEM activities in my classroom. I believe it is important to expose the children to STEM at an early age. My focus is not only have all children excited about STEM but really focusing on girls. We need to have them comfortable by middle school. We need to make learning exciting so kids want to come to school. I believe these projects help children move around in the classroom, collaborate with others, problem solve and think critically. My activities meet all of the next generation science standards. Students will go through the engineering design process with every activity. I have them create blueprints in a special notebook that I provide. They can take this notebook home and look back on all of their designs. The 3 D pen can be used for many projects: literature presentations by making models, shapes for geometry, etc. The popsicle sticks are good for building our future cars, tree houses, catapults, etc. The motors and wheels used for a unit on circuits. The cars will be used for potential and kinetic energy and friction, simple machines. Scholastic news is a great way to keep the children involved in current events. Everything is very 21st century and we need to expose this generation for jobs in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math and help them not be afraid or hesitant to go into these fields.
