My Students
Every day I rethink my curriculum and how I can adjust it to better serve my students' social, emotional, intellectual, and personal needs. I want students to be able to create their own projects and activities informed by indigenous, social justice, and youth participatory action research.
My students come from diverse cultural, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
They are eager to learn and dive into relevant and engaging content. The school where I work is in the process of transforming the social justice pathway. The curriculum I am creating is a part of that transformation. These curriculum items will allow me to shift my classroom, classrooms of others, and hopefully the entire school.
My Project
I plan on utilizing these curriculum books in my planning of projects, lessons, entire units, and students themselves will look at their own ways to navigate the curriculum. Students in addition to growing themselves will also be asked to create and present topics in an effective way.
These books will be used for students to learn ways they can effectively teach about their lives and other complex topics. Students will be conducting youth participatory action research projects using the indigenous, social justice, and anti-oppression curriculum books. They will also develop lessons to share with other people in their school and community.
These curriculum books will deeply impact the creation and implementation of lessons, units, and projects for my students.
With more culturally relevant and engaging activities students will be more invested in themselves and their classmates. My goal is to use these resources across the campus as well and support other teachers in creating relevant, diverse, and engaging lessons for all students! Students will leave the classroom with a better understanding of themselves and the world.
