This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I like to say that all students are special because they are, but what makes my students especially special is their resiliency and individuality. At my school, an academy that specializes in the arts, many of my students have encountered challenging situations that made it difficult for them to express themselves freely. As a result, many of the students I receive have been prescribed medication for depression, hurt themselves physically through cutting, or have attempted suicide. Others have come from living off the streets to moving away from abusive or negligent households. They felt ostracized by society...and yet, they survived, and they excelled by being themselves.
Our school is a Title I school that accepts all students from the district, in or outside of Harbor City.
We provide a nourishing environment that supports creativity and individuality. Students have access to visual and performing arts pathways throughout their four years of high school.
My Project
Each time I post a project for debate, I am able to add resources to another debater!
While school Chromebooks are less expensive, they provide difficulty for some of my students during their debates.
Students who have poor wifi have expressed to me a difficulty during virtual debates due to too many Google files opened at the same time. Having a computer allows them to draw files from Word documents and pdfs and provides an easier transition competitive policy debate.
Please help level the playing field and give to a passionate high school debater. We are a smaller team this year, but we are fierce and ready to go!
