My Project
Our students have gotten into card making and all of the opportunities around it. We have made cards together as a group this year and gone to the post office to mail them to their loved ones. Through these skills, we are teaching communication, addressing envelopes, travel, and money skills when buying stamps.
Our students want to enhance their skills to make cards to sell within our school and raise funds for future community outings and needs at school.
The Cricut machine, tools, and supplies would allow them to have all items on site for their creation and agency in making their cards. Currently, one of our teachers makes their items on their machine at home and then brings them all in for students to assemble, which takes a lot of the student ownership out of it.
These skills also transfer to the employment setting as students prepare for their futures within our program. Students are 18-21 and working on their personal career goals, many of which are creatively and artistically centered.
