Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are amazing! They inspire everyone they work with on campus and in the community. They are working to be as independent as possible through vocational and independent living skills instruction. They are the hardest working people I know!
My Project
Help my students gain independence, job training and important vocational skills!
Due to the pandemic my students have not been able to participate in their work training program.
It is imperative that my students continue to practice their employment skills. Therefore, they are creating, managing and running their own micro-businesses on campus. My students have created a coffee cart and flower delivery business in order to practice the vocational skills they need to get and keep a job after leaving our program.
These micro-businesses provide invaluable employment skills and hands-on training for my students. These micro-businesses will help them learn how to complete and fulfill customer orders, create invoices, purchase supplies, budget, and provide great customer service! They will also strengthen their computer, money and communication skills. The learning opportunities are limitless! Most importantly, they can take all of these skills with them into the workforce.
The Cricut machine and accessories will be used to support my students in their micro-businesses. It will be used to create customer loyalty cards, custom cup sleeves and mugs for the coffee cart business. It will also be used to make custom cards, label tags and stationary for their flower delivery business.
While in distance learning, the Cricut machine will be used to support online instruction. It will be used in tutorials and demonstrations to help prepare students for future use in their micro-businesses. My students can also begin designing and creating the products they will make on the Cricut using the online Design Space program while we are learning from home.
It is imperative that my students continue to practice their employment skills in order to increase their opportunities for gainful employment. Please help my students meet their vocational, independent living, and employment goals!
