Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I work with bilingual students, many of them new to the country. All of them are at different stages of language progression, with the bulk of them at the beginning and emerging stages. A hundred percent of my students come from low income or no income families, and for this reason, all of them receive free breakfast and lunch.
Many parents are unable to provide school supplies, uniforms and pay for school trips.
The school provides many backpacks with school supplies. In addition, uniforms are given to the students due to the fact that they are living in shelters. The school had financial assistance for students who cannot afford to pay for educational trips. Many of my students arrive very early to school, and at dismissal, wish they could stay.
My Project
My school has many school performances for students to participate throughout the school year. Many times the students struggle with what to wear. There are many other events that we wished we had matching/personalized t-shirts, such as, special holidays, school fairs, field trips and festivals.
It would be awesome for 2nd graders to be able to design and make their own t-shirts with my help for school performances that they would get to keep, but for this to happen we need these materials.
My students will use the Cricut iron on vinyl, transfer tape other materials to create their own shirts and hats for school performances.
