My Students

Third grade is such a transitional year for all students. The year 2020 has made this year's third graders school experience a little different to say the least. Much of our ELA program requires students to work in small groups and do partner work. Teachers have had to be creative in allowing this to happen following

COVID 19 restrictions set in our school.

So much of group work has had to be eliminated in their classroom work. Their faces light up when I get out hula hoops, have students stand in the center, and they can have partner discussions being socially distanced. It breaks my heart, and their spirits, that we cannot be using Wit and Wisdom to it's fullest extent. We have great class discussions,but I can't wait until they can start doing small groups and partner work again.

Our school is a Title 1 schools with free breakfasts and lunches. It it important for these children to have a sense of belonging. Not having to share a book will give all students equality and fairness in their education.

My Project

We use the English Language Arts Program Wit and Wisdom. This is a great program and has a lot of group work. I love group work and think it enhances learning. This program sends enough books to do group work. However, when we have unit tests and books are allowed to be used, I have to divide the tests up so students can use a book independently to take the tests.

Please help my students have the resources to work independently when needed and have a book they won't need to share during this COVID pandemic.

We have to be cognizant group and partner work. It would be better for each student to have his or her own book, even during group assignments.
