My Project

My 8th grade students will be studying the science of color through the electromagnetic spectrum and wave interactions. This exploration of optics, light, and color is where science and art come together! With the diffraction glasses, they will be able to view the source of colored light in white light while having their hands free to draw what they observe. From there, they will be able to create a variety of art projects using the ultraviolet color changing beads, chenille stems, and materials we already have such as filters, cylindrical mirrors, and writing tools. Groups will use the inviting and humorous science book Optical Physics for Babies as an example to create a visual product to explain light and color to those unfamiliar with the concepts!
