Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

The day is started by using visual supports depicting the schedule of activities being worked on each day. The students are driven by colors and undertstanding thorugh pictures explaining what words cannot portray for them.

We are an inner city school struggling form a tight budget and a need for teachers to provide students with the essential every day resources required to succeed in the educational system.

Books are at a premium and we are forced to copy from online sources any additional materials needed to modify the curriculum for each individual child's needs. Providing them with books , visuals, writing paper, additional resources and clearly defined instruction requires a printer we can depend on for our day to day activities. Every lesson needs to be broken down to help meet each child's level of understanding. They have such diverse learning styles and cognitive levels. With the right amount of visual support, we are allowing them to be creative using their knowledge to increase comprehension and a final product. It also enables us to create more diverse tools in which to assess them by.

My Project

By providing our classroom with a color printer, it will enable us to create more visual supports which help the student. By creating modified lessons, which our students need, every lesson is broken down to its most simple form, then built upon to create a final understanding and comprehension of what was being taught. The ability to make flashcards, manipulatives, vocabulary word cards, and sentence strips, will allow us a baseline from where to begin the process of learning. This will enable them to bring home the tools they need to practice and master to rise to a higher level of reasoning, higher level thinking, and self confidence.

The materials requested will help our students understand and comprehend the enormous amount of materials required to help them to excel.

Through a series of steps, they will build a knowledge base, vocabulary, and writing strategies, to create a final product. With our ability to provide these addition supports, our students will be given the same opportunities that their typical counterparts receive. The goal here is promoting appropriate instruction through modification to succeed.
