Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
This year, I teach 25 first graders- 12 boys, 13 girls - group of mixed interests, abilities, academic needs, and social-emotional developmental stages. Some of my students are learning to read and write, while some are ready for bigger challenges. Our group loves to play outside, learn new games, and dance to sweet tunes.
Two-Thirds of the class are visual learners, while the rest of class need visual, auditory combined with kinesthetic learning modality.
Learning charts and picture flashcards are strategies I use throughout the day as I teach each lesson.
We celebrate and build a community around our shared goals and experiences. We are part of a larger school that celebrates diversity. The work we do in this classroom is build relationships, celebrate little wins each day, try our personal best and most importantly accept mistakes as learning experiences and a process necessary to gain knowledge.
My Project
Throughout the school year, thematic projects help me introduce reading, math, social studies, and science lessons such as holidays, seasons, coin counting, phonics, geography, and Nursery Rhymes. My students use picture cutouts to help with storytelling, number counting, and word recognition. With the Cricut machine, they have the tools they need for telling and writing stories. Having a Cricut machine means easy and quick access to picture cards so I can create learning posters, vocabulary charts, and holiday arts & craft projects. The Cricut machine can cut stickers so I can use them as a positive reward for students. The Cricut machine saves time and increases efficiency. I can successfully manage students by managing their learning environment in an orderly and as organized as I can.
