This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
We are a 2nd-grade special education classroom and we are full of love and charismatic personalities! My students laugh, play, care, and give to one another with every moment that they can. However, my students face many adverse circumstances, as they live in shelters, city housing developments, and foster care. Most of my students come to school hungry and without proper sized clothing or school supplies. Most of our scholars read, write, and compute at a kindergarten level.
Our 2nd-grade students are living in a very traumatic time and above all are encountering many hardships here in New York City.
My students find school as a safe place to grow academically, socially, and emotionally.
This coming school year, our scholars will continue distance learning in some form and I can already foresee their resilience. My future scholars are currently in 1st grade and will be entering 2nd grade in September and they have shown bravery with their first-grade teachers. Currently, the scholars were only given an iPad or a laptop to work from home with. They receive 4 daily check-ins just to promote socio-emotional support to the scholars and their families during this time.
My Project
Take a moment to think about all the imaginative possibilities a Cricut machine can create in a classroom filled with learners!
This Cricut machine will help create a print-rich environment that is conducive to their learning.
They can design their own ideas made into real-life tools and art!
With the use of a Cricut cutting machine, my students will be able to expand their imaginations while making their classrooms come to life. They can personalize their working spaces and enhance their individualized way of learning. They can help design bulletin boards, and make their manipulatives (small objects that can be moved around) to help them with their math, phonics, reading, and writing.
