My students need materials for arts and crafts such as paper and markers, and indoor games to help support a positive learning environment, and to help motivate the students.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Everyday I open my door to students who come from diverse backgrounds and bring a variety of experiences and languages into the classroom. In my classroom alone there are about 12 different languages spoken at home. This makes teaching reading and language a very important part of my day. I am currently teaching in Houston Texas at a title 1 school which is IR (Improvement Required) school, which 98% of my students are below the poverty line. My school and students were deeply affected by Hurricane Harvey, this pass year, and even though our city is slowly recovering, my school and students are still dealing with the personal affects of Hurricane Harvey. It is my responsibility to not let these barriers define my students. It is my responsibility to create a fun and positive environment to encourage my student to learn.
My students are always excited to learn and they work hard every day to meet their personal and school wide goals.
My Project
"You can teach a student a lesson for a day; but if you can teach them to learn by creating curiosity they will continue to learn that process as long as they live" Clay P. Bedford. As an educator I believe in catering to the whole child, this includes focusing on their development outside the curriculum.
By allowing my students to engage in activities that helps them develops socially during our indoor recess time will create a classroom culture that will stick with my students beyond their elementary years.
As their teacher I can only imagine the expressions on my students face when they open the project box to find items such as markers, answer buzzers, assorted color paper, giant tic-tac-toe, giant jenga, giant bowling, and other games will help them engage in our indoor recess time.
I am asking for a variety of resources for our indoor recess, my have been through a lot and some are still feeling the affects of Hurricane Harvey. This project will defiantly lift the spirits of my students.
