This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

While teaching in Arizona the heat can restrict student play time outside. Brain breaks are essential for student learning as it helps memory retention, reduce anxiety and stress, and allows for creativity. Although this list may seem like a bunch of toys, it is actually creative strategies to help motivate and engage students throughout the day. I wish to give students more than just "Free Time on Chromebooks", I want foster more hands on options in the classroom. I am requesting Magnetic Wonder Tiles, LEGO Building Bricks, Guess Who?, and other fun hands on brain breaks and indoor recess materials. Brain breaks allow for student creativity and having choice allows for students to foster something that best fits their needs that day.

These hands on toys encourage choice and freedom to explore and imagine during times when the Arizona heat restricts students to the outdoors.

Through the short time that I have been teaching I have seen students crave hands on more tactile learning, actually getting excited when I bring out "toys", glue, or hands on materials. I wish to continue to produce the inspiration by allowing students to have access to more hands on materials.

At the end of the day many students are sent to the screen as it can be an easier distraction for them than teaching them life skills in our classrooms. Students need hands on materials to help foster their creativity of the life around them. I wish to inspire students and allow for them to be their true self by having access to these hands on brain breaks.
