This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
The magnetic tiles will provide a hands-on, interactive learning experience that encourages creativity, problem-solving, and collaboration. These tiles support students in exploring concepts of geometry, spatial reasoning, and pattern recognition through play. As they build structures, students will deepen their understanding of mathematical principles like symmetry, balance, and shape recognition. Additionally, the tactile nature of magnetic tiles helps students develop fine motor skills, enhances focus, and improves engagement by making abstract concepts more tangible.
The primary goals for using magnetic tiles are to foster creativity and imagination in building and designing structures, promote problem-solving and critical thinking skills as students work through challenges during construction activities, enhance understanding of geometry concepts such as shapes, angles, symmetry, and spatial relationships, provide opportunities for cooperative learning as students work together on collaborative projects, and engage students through hands-on learning that encourages exploration and experimentation.
My students are diverse in terms of learning styles, backgrounds, and abilities. Many of them are kinesthetic learners who thrive when given the opportunity to engage in tactile, interactive activities. They have a natural curiosity and enthusiasm for hands-on learning, and magnetic tiles provide an ideal medium for this type of exploration. Some students may have learning challenges, and the flexibility of magnetic tiles allows them to work at their own pace, while others can push their creativity further. Their enthusiasm for collaborative work also makes them well-suited for projects that involve teamwork, communication, and shared problem-solving.
