My Students
As a teacher in a Title I school district with a high low-income immigrant population, my students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. Despite all the challenges they may face day in and day out, I am looking to keep things simple and provide my students with unique and meaningful learning experiences.
My students have special needs, but they are a loving, caring and eager group of young learners.
Their individual needs may prevent them from getting ahead early in life and may not provide them with the life experiences many of us see as "typical". However, from the minute they walk into my classroom, I focus on their potential and growth while they are with me. I may not be able to control anything outside of my classroom; however, I can certainly control their experience during the school day. By doing this in a unique and positive way, I am hopeful to inspire even our earliest learners to continue on a path of academic success.
My Project
This year, I would like my students to take charge of their learning and be more independent. The games will support the students during partnership work through collaboration and teamwork while the pens will improve their writing process.
In my classroom, the students learn from one another.
By donating to our project, you will be providing an opportunity for the students to increase their academic achievement in a more fun and creative manner. The supplies that we are requesting; paper trimmer, pens, and games are just a few of the necessary items that will get us going for the school year. The pens will be used during writing workshop so my students don't have to worry about using a pencil where the lead might break or spending unnecessary time erasing. The games will be used during down time when they have finished their activities or a quick 15 minute choice time activity at the beginning of the day to get their brains ready for learning. The paper trimmer will be used to speed up the cutting process in the classroom; this will do the work that scissors spend too much time wasting.
My students will begin to see themselves as mathematicians and authors who can not only read, but also write wonderful stories to tell for generations to come.
