Creativity and Critical Thinking in Collaborative Groups
Help me give my students poster size sticky notes to use in collaborative groups when we return in-person in the fall and laminating pouches to preserve their final projects!

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are a blended community whose backgrounds consist of immigrants, special needs, and bilingualism all in a general education English classroom! Many of my students are first and second generation immigrants whose families struggle financially and culturally. Many of my students' parents first priorities are financial need, so school, unfortunately, becomes less important and more of a struggle.
My students have "life problems" such as helping pay bills, coping with domestic violence, and learning to navigate life without the help and support of an idealistic home life.
Life can be overwhelming for my students, so I like to provide structure and routine so they know what they are getting when they come into my class.
I strive to expose my students to the nostalgic high school English topics via novels, like Lord of the Flies and To Kill a Mockingbird, and short stories such as Lamb to the Slaughter. Project-based learning becomes an exciting part of the English class compared to the tedious practice of rote reading.
My Project
Poster sized sticky notes are so useful in the classroom because they can be reapplied over and over for use. Students love to use the class-set of Mr. Sketch markers on the posters and display them on the wall to share. The ease of moving posters from one place to the next is helpful since we only have less than an hour together each day.
We will read Lord of the Flies at the beginning of the year, and students will be tasked to create a "set of rules" for their imaginary island like the characters in the text.
In addition, I am asking for a laminator and laminating pouches to use for my students to preserve their artwork. I laminate examples of student work and display it on the bulletin boards inside the classroom and in the hallway and since they're laminated, I can use them over and over in the years to come.
