This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I am a proud teacher at a Title 1 elementary school located in Tempe, Arizona. Our 500+ students come from diverse ethnic and economic backgrounds. More than 70% of our students receive free or reduced-price lunch daily.

Our staff believes that all students can be successful, especially when we are able to give them the tools they need to reach their goals.

My school’s mission is focused on the learning of the whole child: academically, social/emotionally, and physically. Our staff dedicates themselves to achieve these goals. Not only do they provide rigorous instruction throughout the day, but many of our staff members teach after school clubs during the year that range from math and reading to soccer and dance. We spend time at assemblies, in our classrooms, and during community events celebrating the academic and social success and growth of our students and staff.

In order to provide the best, learner-driven environment, I am requesting classroom art supplies and basic school supplies. At our school we do not specifically have an art teacher or an art room. I believe that this is very important for students and helps them use their fine motor skills. I try to fit art into our everyday schedule to allow the students to use their creativity and imagination. Students also need basic school supplies to be successful in their everyday work. Many of my students start the year with no school supplies on the first day. This project will help them have the tools they need to do their best work.
