My Project
I am a Multilingual Learner Educator in my elementary school building serving Pre-K to Fifth Grade. In this position, I support students who are acquiring English and who may know more than one additional language. This happens in small groups and by co-planning and co-teaching with classroom educators. These materials will increase access and engagement with writing for ALL students in First and Second Grade, especially for our Multilingual Learner students.
The student population at my building is very diverse and has a high population of Multilingual Learners, they make up 50% of our school - so cool!
This project covers writing curriculum materials to help deepen the writing process for First and Second students, plus increase their creative process and engagement during writing. My building has three First Grade classes and three Second Grade classes with 22 students each. Each classroom is full of energy, excitement for learning, and students have a high interest in sharing their ideas and opinions. With the support of this differentiated writing curriculum, I can co-plan and co-teach with classroom educators to elevate our writing units and student writing output.
The chosen writing curriculum materials will increase student engagement, incorporate differentiation depending on student need, and support writing challenges or writing extensions when students are ready.
