This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Learning world history can be an uphill battle when the classroom lacks basic supplies. Poster boards allow students the opportunity to creatively express their research and present their findings. Additionally, the creative mind of Dr. Seuss helps students learn through the use of metaphors.
The majority of my students are socioeconomically disadvantaged and many of these students do not have access to computers and the Internet outside school.
Additionally, we have a large English Language Learner population. Our school is a small public charter with an enrollment of about 425. With continuing budget cuts, neither our school nor I can afford to purchase these much needed teaching tools.
My Project
The subject of World History can be complicated and a bit dry when the only book of reference is the textbook. As such, students need additional ways to learn and express their research. Providing students with information through other forms, such as "The Butter Battle Book" by Dr. Seuss, students learn about the Cold War with the use of metaphors. Additionally, working on "poster projects," students have the opportunity to work together in a collaborative atmosphere. The learning becomes fun and engaging, as well as learning other basic skills of cooperation and teamwork.
My students need these items to help bring history alive and more meaningful.
Also, my students will become more involved in their own education, allowing them to connect past and current events. Additionally, these supplies will provide my students with access to a higher quality education.
More than three‑quarters of students from low‑income households
