This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
This is the time of year when both my patience and my supplies are dwindling. But we still have a ways to go and I know they deserve the best of me. These materials will also sustain us for the next few school years as well!
I love using magnetic letters and LCD tablets for a variety of activities and student engagement is always high.
For younger learners, they can create two letter words. For older students, they can use it to build longer words on their own, or we can use it for dictation practice. This activity reaches a different part of their brain and they love it! In addition to using whiteboards and the magnetic letters, students also love writing with the LCD tablets! It’s a great way to warm up their brains and I use them the same way I use the magnetic letters – for dictation, word creation, or just for a “brain break” from writing with paper and pencil.
Our entire school is out of sticky post-it chart paper. I find the smaller version easier for younger students to work with. This chart paper is also ideal for small group instruction for writing the goals/objectives and/or outcomes for the lesson. And the Sharpie brand chart paper markers work best because they are bold and don’t bleed through the paper like permanent markers.
My older students had the idea of using blank books to showcase their writing during the year. They can also use the books to add their own flair such as photos, pictures, or stickers, things that highlight their individual personalities.
