Next year I'll be teaching a middle school elective class called "Creative Technology Explorations". One of my goals is for students to express their creativity through coding projects and 3D design.
Since I don't have a campus budget, we need outside funding to purchase materials for our project designs!
Micro:Bit processors - Students will create coding activities on the Make Code site that incorporate not only computer science, but also geography, music, art, and science. Computational thinking helps students to develop critical thinking skills that help them not only in technology class but in all subject areas.
3D Printer - My students use a website called Tinkercad to create their own 3D designs. It's great for spatial reasoning because you really have to think about an object from every direction. Sometimes it's hard for your brain to think that way! The software isn't easy, but we love the challenge and the critical thinking it requires to learn. The 3D printer will enable them to see their creations come to life.
