My Project
I teach over four hundred students, at a Title 1 school. My students look forward to art class, and they love to create art. My class gives them access to materials and experiences they would not have otherwise.
Part of the challenge we are facing is a lack of proper storage space.
I have one drying rack for the entire school. I don't have any storage for paper, and little to no storage for their art supplies, for books, projects, or portfolios. The drying rack would allow more students to have access to paint and watercolors. The mobile cart would allow for easier access and transportation of materials and projects. The bins and caddies would help keep materials in easy reach.
Part of my goal as an art teacher is to embed literacy and math into the art classroom and make cross-curricular connections, to help students develop a career and college ready mindset. The bookshelf would help with this endeavor, because it would not only allow for storage, but would also create a cozy nook, where students could sketch, read, and draw.
Students learn best when their learning spaces are bright, tidy, and well organized, with easy access to materials. The items in this project would help create inviting spaces, where students feel welcomed and inspired to not just create art, but to engage in all aspects of learning.
