This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I am a speech therapist working with preschool age students. I absolutely love working with this age group because of the level of excitement that they can bring to any activity. It makes not just therapy fun, but my job. I often joke that I get paid to talk with kids as we play with puzzles and playdoh. I work with students ranging in ages from 3-5. My days are filled with lots of books, games, and conversations (with some hidden practice and skill building) in the context of play.
I strive to create engaging and effective sessions, taking into account the individual speech and language goals of each student, their developmental skill levels, and their personalities with unique interests.
I also try to align each session with the curriculum that is being taught in their classrooms to support these school concepts, vocabulary, and overall learning.
My Project
It can be a challenge to engage preschoolers in-person to practice and develop speech and language skills. This is now even more of a challenge than ever, as many of our preschool age students will be learning from home, through an online format.
The premade themed based units on Teachers Pay Teachers will provide engaging activities that align with the classroom curriculum, saving me time to focus on providing effective services.
I will be able to provide direct support and services to students and their families virtually utilizing fun and interactive activities focused on vocabulary for colors, actions, animals, fall, winter, spring, and even books like Little Red Riding Hood and the Gingerbread man. The families will also be able to then repeat these activities at home after therapy, using the modeled strategies, and further support their child's speech and language development.
