My Students

"It is a happy talent to know how to play." - Ralph Waldo Emerson. Play is such an important part of life. Some of our greatest minds would agree that play is vital to human development. According to Albert Einstein, "Play is the highest form of research." So let's play!

In my class, my students learn from playing, exploring, and creating.

My students are 5 and 6 years old. They come from diverse backgrounds and many of their families are economically challenged. Many of my students eat 2 meals a day at school. My kindergarten class is in a high poverty public school in New York City. Affording them the opportunity to play with materials that will develop their fine motor skills and their brains would be wonderful.

My Project

My students will use the requested sand, sand toys, play dough, and play dough toys at their Learning Centers. Our class Learning Centers are varied and differentiated to meet the needs of each student. Students will use these materials to develop their fine motor skills, while exploring and creating. These materials will allow all the students in my class to play, learn, and develop their senses. Many of my students have limited resources at home. They are limited in their home activities. Giving them these hands-on materials in class will help them develop their senses through play.

This donation of sand, sand toys, play dough and play dough toys will make a difference in the physical and cognitive development of my students.

Learning through play is crucial for young growing minds and bodies. This will allow many disadvantaged students to play with high quality materials.
