Creative Notebook Options for Students

My Project

To internalize the concepts they are learning, middle school science students need to be fully engaged in their daily work, including labs, sketching, note-taking, and interactive notebooks.

My students stay organized with an easy-to-carry notebook made from a manila folder.

They personalize it and keep it together during the semester with decorative duct tape and continually add drawings representing new things they learn. It is an interactive notebook, so they write responses to their observations, make a lot of drawings, and outline, decorate, and make colorful annotations when they go over and really learn the new ideas. Fortunately, we have a supply of colored pencils, but need classroom sharpeners. Students can also use duct tape in various design projects throughout the year. Lastly, we need printer ink to print student work, color wheels, optical illusions, and images they select or create themselves for their poster assignments.
