I have general and special education students. Some of my students require a separate space where they can successfully build upon good writing habits without the noise and distractions of the class. Many of my students are struggling with writing and this center may encourage them to try.
My students attend a Title I public school in New York.
They are kindergarten students who are very energetic and of diverse cultures. My class is mixed with general and special education students. They are learning how to write and we would like materials to support their learning. My students have different learning styles in the classroom. The writing center that I have chosen will help fulfill their needs.
My Project
Unfortunately, we do not have a writing center right now, and the students have to write at their desks next to their peers. This does not help my students with disabilities who are easily distracted reach their fullest potential. A writing center will take the external factors hindering them from completing writing assignments away and bring out their internal creative expressions.
The writing center will allow up to four students to sit in a separate location and focus on writing without the distractions of their classmates. This table holds writing paper, crayons, construction paper, and pencils so that the students have everything they need to get creative within arm's reach.
My students will be able to write poems, stories, draw pictures, and create artistic images to share with their peers and families. This will increase their self-esteem and ultimately make them want to write.
The children are our future doctors, lawyers, and teachers.
They need the chance to express themselves creatively. Writing is an essential part of life. I want to make sure that my students have a strong foundation in writing so that they can continue to be the best writers possible.
