My Project
In my classroom, creative SEL approaches will create a norm of communicating about our situations and disagreements, rather than not knowing what to do with big emotions. Students need to be supported in more ways than academics alone. Presenting students with knowledge and support of their emotions at a young age can have a valuable impact on their future and ours. Students love a hands-on approach, games, and fidgets. I will set aside a space within the classroom where students can use resources such as Hugimals and books to reflect, take a break, and respond in a positive way to situations that may come throughout our 180 days of school together.
Students in public schools enter a very diverse classroom and have to find ways to manage learning while having an open mind to differences.
Students have different learning styles as well as being on different socio-emotional levels. Understanding our differences can help us come together to identify areas of need and growth that can be made.
The students in my classroom come from a rural school. The town they live in will more than likely be the town they grew up in and will stay. Developing a strong community and sense of belonging at a young age will build a strong and safe future for our children. Putting these ideas in place can promote positivity and encourage others to do the same throughout their lives.
