Creative Kids In Kindergarten

My Students

"Play gives children a chance to practice what they are learning"- Fred Rogers. The brilliant Mr. Rogers sums up the importance of play in the classroom. Dramatic play time is a favorite time in our busy classroom!

We work and learn in school of approximately 950 students.

Our elementary school has the largest number of military families in our metropolitan country. We have a classroom of twenty one energetic and imaginative Kindergarteners. Our administration and community are supportive; however, with budget cuts many of our needs cannot be met. Reduced funding does not allow for resources to meet creative play exploration.

My Project

Each day our students have a 30 minute block of time to build oral language and improve collaboration during a structured playtime. Students are encouraged to create and discuss with peers using a variety of materials. Many students are drawn to dramatic play areas where they can use concepts learned in class as they interact with peers. The items that I am requesting for the dollhouse will help students reach their goals in the area of dramatic play during this classroom time.

This donation will allow students to have more variety in the dramatic play area.

Students will be allowed to dramatize daily routines and family interactions as well as explore community roles.
