Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Creating a classroom that is welcoming and comfortable for students is a major priority. Students come to school eager to discover new things and explore the world around them. I want my students to welcome others, be kind, and assist people, especially our senior citizens. Winter holidays are a magical time. My after-school students are very creative, concerned, and fun-loving children. We were discussing ways to spread the holiday cheer. Students discussed making ornaments, and colorful cards, creating pictures, and spending time with the nearby Nursing Home. We have DonorsChoose projects, along with this project, asking for support to make ornaments for our nearby Nursing Home, possibly work with a senior citizen to paint or color an ornament for Christmas, make snowflakes, Valentine's Day ornaments, create a computer (another DonorsChoose project) generated cards or beautiful pictures, and to enjoy a snack with our new friend. Please help us support our community.

My goal is for students to be excited to learn about their community and the senior citizens who live within their community and beyond.

Despite any challenges my students may face, I strive to provide high-quality and meaningful learning experiences. These crafts will allow students to get into the holiday spirit by socializing while crafting and snacking. This social-emotional experience will open their hearts to engage and become familiar with new and different community members. Students may make these crafts for themselves or they may create and give them as holiday gifts to family, community members (Policemen/Firemen/Nursing Homes), etc. All of these crafts will be placed in a holiday Santa Bucket to give to all of our chosen community members, especially our senior citizen nursing home. Students will bring their holiday Santa bucket while visiting in December to give our special gift to our community members.
