Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are great. They love learning, and they enjoy coming to school. My students are mostly immigrants or children of immigrants. Many are English language learners (ELLs). Nearly all students at my school receive free or reduced-price lunch because their family's household incomes are below the poverty line.

My school is a large, crowded school, in a very large urban district.

This past year, we have had a lot of budget cuts. Fourteen staff members from our school were cut. Most of our budget has been used to keep the teachers and staff that we do have. Even though the school has limited resources, students have some of the highest test scores in the area.

My Project

My students have been researching other cultures and places. They are designing projects to present their research. Some students have been learning about artists and need art supplies to design their own pieces in the style of a famous artist. Some students have been learning about particular places and need building supplies like foam or plastic bricks, moss, clay, paper, foil, and paint to build models of the places they have learned about. Other students have been learning about cultural traditions and need poster materials to show what they have learned. Finally, some students have learned about famous people and want to create a miniature statue of the person they have learned about.

Since students will be presenting their projects in an after school night, this project has the opportunity to impact community members as well as students.

Kids in poverty deserve opportunities to be creative and share their ideas with others. Thank you for donating to a project that will allow my students to develop 21st Century skills including creative problem solving, collaboration, and communication.
