This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My students are active and excitable seventh and eighth grade scholars. They move around a lot, and they have boundless energy. As a dual language magnet program, they also switch classes midday. They spend half of the day totally immersed in the Spanish language and curriculum, and the other half of the day totally immersed in the English language curriculum. All of these movements make organizing their materials extremely difficult. Last year, one of the biggest problems was organizing their crayons! Crayons were constantly being lost, broken, misplaced, and exchanged between students.

In my research this summer, I have found that many teachers love these hard, plastic crayon cases that can keep one box of crayons organized and complete for the entire year!

This is a project I must undertake. Usually, I am passing out new boxes of crayons by November. This would save not only my students, but their families money if they did not have to constantly purchase materials that are lost or damaged.

I am looking forward to your collaboration on this project as students use these art materials daily in math, literacy, social studies, and science assignments! There is solely one item. Each student at the beginning of the year will receive a hard crayon box labeled with their name and homeroom. This crayon box will be theirs for the entire year and I am hopeful that one box of crayons will last them 180 days!
