My Project
I work with special education students in Transitional Kindergarten through 8th grade with diagnoses ranging from Autism to physical disabilities! In school based occupational therapy, we focus on the development of fine and visual motor skills to build students ability to engage in all the writing, drawing, and projects that they will need to complete during their academic years.
One way we do this is to use simple art projects which as you can imagine, uses a lot of materials for an entire OT caseload.
Simple art projects can help support the development of SO MANY SKILLS including but not limited to visual perceptual skills to be able to reference a sample of a project and organize your own the same, visual motor skills to color inside boundary lines, use lines and shapes to create drawings to communicate thoughts, bilateral coordination to cut shapes and images - the list is endless! With these materials, we will continue to develop these projects for students to allow them to continue to build on the skills they are also working on in the classroom so they can be the best student they can be!
