Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I teach at a Head Start program in South Chicago. A majority of our students come from low-income families. Many of my students are also dual language learners. Most of my students join my classroom at just three years of age and stay with us until they transition to kindergarten.
Having the opportunity to watch my students grow, develop new skills, and learn over a two year period is extremely rewarding.
I get to see them come in as shy three's and walk out as confident five's. Although many of my students come from low-income families, their curiosity, their energy, and their eagerness to come to school to socialize and learn are inspiring!
My Project
Our preschoolers LOVE the art area of our classroom, and we love to see the things they create. We offer a completely open-ended art experience, giving the children the opportunity to create whatever comes to mind. The Peel and Stick foam cubes were one of the favorite items in art area. They use them to create everything from airplanes to animals and buildings. We would love to give the same opportunity to our new students. We also think they'll love the peel and stick pom-pom's too! They enjoy using pom-poms, but get disappointed when they fall off their artwork, no matter how much glue is added. We think these pom-poms will solve that problem!
