Research shows that adolescents learn best from each other, and my students want to learn from and with each other - they're always gravitating towards each other and discussing academics! Currently, my classroom seating is close to allowing all students to work together, but I need a few more tables and durable chairs to fully allow for comfortable group seating and collaboration. More collaborative seating would support increased academic success, engagement, and deep learning to take place in the classroom.
This environment can promote a sense of belonging and engagement among students, making the ELA/history classroom a more welcoming and enjoyable space.
I am specifically requesting tables and chairs which will replace traditional desks. Tables can create a more open and inviting atmosphere compared to traditional rows of desks, while promoting a sense of community and encouraging students to work together. The tables I am asking for allow for increased flexibility, comfort, and engagement, easily configurable for partner work, group work, and independent work. These tables and chairs are special because they flip up, allowing the classroom to transform quickly into many flexible spaces as needed. A variety of heights and options for seating allows for more creativity and a comfortable, safe place for students to learn.
