Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our students are genuinely caring, humble, thoughtful, and curious about the world around them. Fully invested in the spirit of education, STEM is in full effect on campus! The diverse student population holds new lessons for me as well as the students each and every day.

For every new fact I introduce, they have an increased hunger for more!

I love when I introduce an idea and get questions that begin with, "So what if..." and "Is that related to...?" These very often lead to those 'ah ha!' moments teachers live for.

My Project

Our Makerspace class needs help in building up its Circuitry unit. Currently, we have a few sets for students to explore but the sets are pre-set and limit creativity and exploration. With these LED stickers and copper tape, students can plan and design unique projects either for 'make and take' or as a fun way to expand upon our other current projects.

Help us to support student development of unique circuitry projects for STEAM.

These materials will help us to achieve this goal because students must create their OWN projects from scratch rather than from a guide.

My plan is 2-fold: first students will refresh their memory of how basic circuits work, view sample connection ideas and an interactive on-line activity for how circuits work in everyday situations.

Next, students will decide if they want to make an individual project, work in pairs or in a group of 3-4 (depending on the project idea). Students will research and sketch their proposal to me and upon approval begin. Project ideas might be as small as a Birthday card for a family member or as an addition to a larger project such as to combine with their construction or Video Editing unit. To conserve materials, their proposal will include a sketch and basic outline of the project goal. The sketch will label where LED's will be located, as well as, dimensions and any additional features such as function or purpose of special features.

Ideally, we can add these LED (the copper tape connects them) to our new incoming Robotics project where they build a Green Tech City and create a mini movie highlighting special features such as Green Roofs or Solar Windows. The lights can be a Great eye-catching feature to help motivate students to combine multiple skill sets for STEAM.
