About My Students

My students are young, excited learners with diverse backgrounds. They are always eager to take on new challenges and explore. My students are high achievers, yet, from various different economic backgrounds. Our school is considered to be a school of need according to the number of students that qualify financially for free lunch programs.

Sierra, one of my class leaders, has helped me to create this project. Creativity and marketing skills are a large part of this project. With her skills, she will help lead this project.

I have been teaching my students that they can achieve any goals as long as they work hard and push through any obstacles. The building of our school's first business will be their first test and challenging. To advertise the new business, my students will design and create original, non-traditional business cards and card holders.

My students will be creating non-traditional business cards and card holders out of card stock to advertise their businesses. Through this project, each student will learn computer, marketing, and organizational skills. These skills will teach them about graphic design, computer software, and ways to communicate to target audiences. All of which they could use in the future throughout college and their chosen careers.

The glue needed will be used to glue different materials onto the card, such as, beads onto the card. The magnets will be used to fasten the card holders, and the chompers will be used to shape the edges of the business cards.

What is great about this project is students will combine their individuality with realistic ways businesses advertise their products and services to draw in consumers. I believe this more innovative approach will get my students involved into thinking who their target market will be and to really think about what will attract them.

In Their Own Words

My goal is to create a very attractive non-traditional business card that advertises my hair salon business and services. I would like for my peers to say that my card looks very professional and that if they were interested in getting their hair done, my business card would influence them.

As a group leader, I would definitely be discussing my teams different designs to make sure they are successfully selling their business. Since we have to share the supplies, I would also make sure that we are working together when using them. Overall, my goal as a leader is to make sure we work as a team.

This project is important to me because I want to be able to show my teacher and friends my designer skills. I love doing arts and crafts. Most importantly, I love showing people my work. I think this will be a fun project to do because we can tie in art with a class assignment. This keeps the assignment from being boring to me, but very interesting. I am not a very talkative person, so this project allows me to express myself and business through a business card.
