My Project

Our school participated in the FIRST Lego League Challenge for the first time last year. This year, with amazing excitement and many applications, we are allowed to have 2 teams. Teams consist of a maximum of 10 students. FIRST stands for Inspiration and Recognition in Science and Technology. It is a global organization that helps students gain real-world problem-solving experience and build teamwork, critical thinking, coding, and design skills.

The materials requested are the materials each team needs in order to complete the coding and robot design challenge component of the competition.

With teams of 10, (now having 20 students), having only 1 robot to work with makes sharing difficult during our limited times together. The new robot would allow the second team to have their own robot to design, code, and work through their challenges. The extra motors and batteries are needed as they don't work forever . We will use the materials year after year to benefit new students each year. So, as it says only 20 students, that is for each year of our team. Students will graduate to the next level as they leave our school after 6th grade. We will welcome new participants each year.

We have a mentor from Boeing who meets with us each week to guide us in coding and design. We try to bring in other community members to guide the students in creating and presenting their presentation for competition. The materials requested would greatly help us to use our time more efficiently and possibly create more advanced robot designs and codes as the students will have more time with their own team robot.
