Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My class is made up of diligent, inspiring, and creative fourth graders with big hearts and analytical minds. They attend school every day with purpose and a desire to learn something new, to discuss what they think, and take pride in their efforts. My students learn in a bilingual community with a high level of family support. They attend our school with growing technology opportunities that enhance their approach, application, and articulation of their knowledge and their new learning. We balance this with creativity and physical opportunities with that support the development of persistence, teamwork, and determination.
My Project
How can we help students engage in the study of the incredible and varied species of the animal world while learning to respect wildlife? We can do this by allowing them to dig deep into the investigation of how animal structures support their natural behaviors and how animals contribute so much to our natural world! Fourth grade NGSS standards call for students to be able to construct an argument that plants and animals have internal and external structures that function to support survival, growth, behavior, and reproduction.
The Crayola Model Magic Clay Alternative will allow my students to use both their investigative research and their creativity in order to apply their scientific understanding of the animal world and in turn learn how to appreciate their lives .
After reading nonfiction text about animals, viewing short clips of live animals online, observing real animals in real time, and practicing drawing various animal structures, students will develop their own animal species that can survive in a given habitat. They will be able to use the art tools to provide a detailed interpretation of how animals use their varied structures to thrive in our current world. The opportunity will serve for students to think critically about how each structure has a purpose and function that contribute to its ability to grow and reproduce in order to keep their species going. The more students are able to learn about various animals, the more they will develop an appreciating and compassion for them.
Please consider contributing to our project as our students will grow creatively, scientifically, and become more environmentally conscious.
