This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I am so blessed to teach the gifted, higher-level thinkers in 4th and 5th graders! These kids are pushing my knowledge as much as I'm challenging them. They are intelligent, funny, quirky and so eager to do their best whether its reading, writing, morphemic studying, vocabulary working, spelling, or writing fancy cursive!

The higher level students think outside the box, being challenged to close gaps and increase scores without the technology to support them!

The 4th & 5th grade accelerated scholars deserve the technology and reading material to explore questions, use inquiry thinking, share ideas, research interests and WOW the school district with scores they'll undoubtedly master if given the tools to do so. Our school currently has an outdated computer lab and one Chromebook cart shared between 165 students.

My Project

Students in the accelerated 5th grade ELA class are mastering skills that are higher-level thinking and which provide empathy in a Historical era. Currently, we only have enough for students to share with a partner, by each having their own copy, students will be able to take their copy home for further skilled practice, research skills, and evidence-based debate.

We currently listen to the audible copy of the novel as well but many of our students do not have access to the internet in their homes.

This provides a challenge in mastering skills beyond the classroom, which is limited time.
