This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
When my preschoolers enter the classroom each day, they are prepared to learn and explore. They are excited to see what the day has in store for them.
My students come from low income families and their parents work eight hours or more a day in order to provide for their family.
Therefore, most of my preschoolers spend more than eight hours a day year around. I feel that my students deserve an environment filled with learning opportunities throughout the day. As a preschool teacher I would like to provide my students with a special area where they can enjoy and be creative. Because the first five years are the most important years in their lives. I would like to encourage their creativity throughout their school day.
My Project
I would like to provide an art center table for my preschoolers. Through my experience I believe that art and creativity are important to the development of language, fine motor skills, cognitive decision making, social skills, etc. A new art center table will provide my students with a stable and consistent area that they can use continuously throughout the day. Unfortunately, the current table that we use for art is often moved, limiting the amount of time my students get to use it. The table is often used to meet other needs in the classroom, causing my students to be displaced and preventing them from completing their projects.
An art center would help my students create those special momentums for their families while enhancing their learning and their ability to write. My students enjoy making special cards and art projects for their loved ones.
It gives them great pride to know that they've created something special.
During art activities, the children are able to create visual arts, sharpen their creativity, build their self-esteem, communication skills, social skills, and writing abilities to prepare them for kindergarten; just to name a few. My students like to know that they are special and that they’ve created something unique. Art projects allow self-expression. I love the excitement and pride a child feels when they have created a picture of their family or something for their family.
