Eighty-seven percent of my students are from low-income households and many of them have to use public trains and buses just to get to school. Some even travel over an hour each way. My students are making an active decision to better their education by attending our school.
Our school is an honors for all high school, meaning that each of my students is in honors-level courses.
Not only do we cover honors level material, but we expect our students to participate in labs, activities, and think beyond the standard curriculum.
My Project
With a majority of my students being remote learning to start the year, I am working to adapt my normal plans to online plans. Most of my students will be responsible for babysitting younger siblings who are not in school, or working jobs during normal hours to help support their families.
Due to the change in schedule, it's vital for my students to be able to watch videos created by me on their own schedule, and at their own pace.
I will be making videos for each topic of my class, and while making videos, I want to annotate and draw to highlight important parts.
Once we return to in person schooling, these resources allow me to have students participate by presenting the iPad Screen on my project and edit as we discuss in class. This will help students in biology, AP Biology, environmental science, and the AP capstone courses.
