My Students
I am afforded the opportunity to teach the most promising group of energetic and curious fifth graders, the same group I had in fourth grade, last year. These scholars are excited about school, and the opportunities that are presented to them on a daily basis. But there are obstacles that create challenges for most. More than ninety percent of them are coming from low-income households. And the added uncertainty of COVID - 19 has further derailed my students. These challenges affect how their day progress, but never-the-less they continue to persevere to achieve their daily goals, sometimes remotely other times in person.
Simple tools such as pencils, sharpeners, erasers, post itself stick tabletop pads, dry erase markers, desk top sharpeners and sharpie-colored markers are needed to help my scholars.
Having the stamina to persevere through challenges have allowed these scholars to develop some skills they need to be partially successful. But the need for those basic tools in their classroom and at home is a grave one. I do not want these scholars to be partially successful. I want them to be successful.
My Project
School is a place where my students feel free, safe, nurtured and accepted. Feeling this way at school opens the door for learning and achievement. So, I am requesting, pencils, markers, paper, laminating machine, ink for printer, folders, to help my students create, complete, and preserve their projects and classwork.
The talents my students possess are tremendous; given these materials, examples of their talents would be exhibited around the school for all to see.
Just think of the reward and joy that would radiate from the faces of these students. The sense of achievement that will follow also cannot be ignored. So please help me showcase talent that will otherwise go unnoticed.
In a short while these students would begin another chapter in their school life. It is important that they are confident that no matter what obstacles (getting materials) they face there will always be a safe place, their school, that will provide what they need to make them successful.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
