This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

We are an urban high school that has a lack of necessary materials and resources for our students to thrive. Our neighborhood is high poverty and we are considered to be one of the most challenging schools in our area. We have serious attendance problems and many students who are not engaged in learning.

I have taught here for eighteen years and enjoy the creative spirit of my students.

Over the years, I have had the pleasure of seeing my students discover talents they never knew they had. I strive to expose them to as many diversified, artistic experiences as I can.

Our students enjoy and are engaged in artistic activities during school and in after-school programs.

My Project

It is great to be back in the classroom and creating art with students. After almost a year and a half of having class on their laptops, students are ready to create some hands on projects in art class. In ceramics class, we will be learning hand building techniques and developing throwing skills on the potters wheel.

Students are eager to work with clay and I want to ensure that we have the resources to provide this fun and educational experience.

I look forward to seeing their creativity blossom as we ease into the school year.
