Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are middle schoolers at a Title I school in the Washington Heights neighborhood of New York. 100% of the students are on the free lunch program. My students come from diverse backgrounds and many from tough homes.

My students are active and enthusiastic, even though they carry a lot of stress from home which sometimes interferes with their ability to focus on doing their best work.

My students are motivated and eager to do well. They want to learn and they constantly seeking opportunities to take ownership of their learning.

My Project

The materials requested are micro bots, Kano computer kit, and the Lego Mindstorms EV3; these will allow my diverse group of students to access technology and practice coding at all different levels. Having my students access a range of technologies allow for a progression of skills and a furthering of their understanding of the concepts being taught in their computer/STEM class.

My students are inquisitive and creative which drives them to constantly seek ways to further their understanding of the world around them.

These kits will allow my students the opportunity to create, engage, collaborate, and challenge their thinking. My students need to have many opportunities to work with hands-on technology and STEM related projects since most of them are growing up in a society with the need for 21st-century skills. From building and controlling the robot, building a computer, creating/ designing programs on the micro bits students will be exposed to programming and coding.

Through the use of these various kits, we are allowing my students to have access to technology that they otherwise wouldn't have access to. We are providing them with skills that will foster their success in future endeavors.
