Creating “The Chill Zone”

Help me give my students flexible seating, books, a hanging tent canopy, shelving, a weighted plushie for a calming space in the classroom that allows them to decompress and feel their feelings.

My Project

My 5th and 6th grade students are amazing little people. They are inquisitive and have a thirst for learning. Growing up in a very small and rural town comes with some challenges but my kids meet these with a renewed spirit each day. They are hardworking and appreciative of everything.

My goal is to create a special space in my classroom where my students can meet emotional challenges when they arise and quickly return to a good state of learning.

This calming corner project will create a designated space where my students can go to self-regulate their emotions and cope with stress or overwhelm. This space will be crucial for supporting my students’ emotional and social-emotional development and can benefit them not only in the classroom, but at home and in their community as well. When children can effectively manage their emotions and reduce stress, they are better able to focus and engage in learning and other activities, leading to improved performance. I am asking a rug and additional flexible seating, a canopy, a weighted stuffed animal, bookshelves and some SEL books and resources so that my students will have a designated place where they can practice regulating their emotions and then return to the class ready to enjoy learning.

In essence, your donation helps to create a resource that empowers my students to develop essential emotional and coping skills, fostering a more positive and productive learning experience as well as practice fluency in literature.
