This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Philadelphia Juvenile Justice Service Center School is an alternative school that literally exist inside of a detention center. Many of our youth lacks motivation. They are victims of abnormal circumstances that has impacted their desire to learn. Through incentive based learning, our school's goal is to reprogram their fixed mindset.
We are striving to create success stories.
Rewarding our students for good conduct and academic progress is essential. They are used to being smacked with negative criticism. The amount of trauma they have encountered is enormous and it must be challenged with positive reinforcements.
Therefore, we are adamant about rewarding and recognizing students as they advance in their educational journey. With the help from your donations, we can change their mindset. This can be accomplished by recognizing students with a certificates of completion, offering incentive activities like FUN DAY that include movie days with snacks and games. We are requesting polaroid cameras to afford students the chance to take pictures and capture a proud moment. We are asking for these specific board games because they are not only fun, but they provide many life lessons. If we are going to reverse engineer their mindset, we must offer an education that is incentive based and offers them something to shoot for besides a grade.
